On 16th May 2019, Healthy London Partnership invited the CYPHP Asthma team to attend and present at their first South East London Paediatric Asthma Network meeting. The aim of the network was to bring together those working to improve children’s asthma care and management, and to share innovation and best practice from across the area. The network was well attended, and included clinicians from across the network, including new colleagues in Lewisham.
As part of the meeting, Laura Doolan and Laura King, CYPHP’s Community Asthma Specialist nurses presented the CYPHP model of care, our services, and resources. They also shared the new Health Check video. Following the presentations, members of the network asked questions, and Laura and Laura shared their clinical knowledge and experience, and some preliminary findings about health needs and outcomes (see them below).
The afternoon session included valuable time to network, and a group discussion about the network’s ambitions and priorities, and about supporting implementation. It was also a good opportunity to hear about neighbouring boroughs’ services, ambitions, and future directions.
What are your ambitions for asthma care in South East London?
What are the priorities for the first year for a South East London network?
Rosamund Adoo-Kissi, from the Ella Roberta Foundation spoke passionately about air pollution, and her journey in raising awareness about the importance of clean air for children. Rosamund was inspiring and committed, and we are grateful to have had her input to our work in CYPHP.
Clinicians discussed and debated types of asthma action plans (AAPs), and issues regarding the 48 hour post-exacerbation review. Laura King is now working on a small-scale survey, to understand more about our local practice teams’ views, expectations, and barriers to change.
The day proved very valuable, with hopes to form a more formal network that meets regularly to share learning and experience.
What would best support you to move these ambitions forward in South East London?
